What’s up FFC Oak Park?!
I’ve been in the role of Fitness Director here since January 2 and I think this is long overdue. I want to give you all an idea of what I am determined to accomplish here so that you can hold me accountable and know what to expect from our team.
I’ve been a strength and conditioning coach for a little over 15 years now, which began with my position working at a commercial gym in the Lakeview neighborhood for 3 years. While I learned a lot and built some great relationships that are still with me today, I didn’t have the greatest experience with the environment that I worked in. It was a numbers focused approach that created a cold and sterile climate in the gym.
After leaving and starting my own business, I spent the next portion of my career refining the art of building relationships. I believe that if we can connect with each other through kindness and genuine care for our betterment, then we can achieve anything that we set out to do.
What I hope to pass on to my team of coaches is an understanding of the importance of making connections. I recognize that more often than not, the gym can be an intimidating and uncomfortable place for people. It’s our job to figure out how to help you, our members, feel at home here. I’m here to tell you that we are not here to take up space and monopolize equipment. We are here to help each and every one of you progress toward your goals! If you need help with something, please don’t hesitate to ask. And if one of my coaches approaches you on the floor to help, know that it comes from a genuine desire to make life easier and safer for you.
So let’s do that!
Let’s break down the walls, get comfortable in an environment where everyone is accepted and valued for who they are, and have some fun while we create healthier lives for ourselves. I know that the onus of this relationship building is on me and my team. I promise you that I will do my best to educate them and hold them accountable to this task. I ask you to do the same for me. If you see room for improvement, please bring it to my attention so that I can work to improve where we are falling short.
I look forward to getting to know you all and helping you reach your goals!

Congratulations to FFC Oak Park’s August member of the month, Lisa McKenna! We asked Lisa about her experience at FFC, and here’s what she had to share:
What does membership at FFC mean to you?
My mom was always going to aerobics classes or “power walking” with her friends and as a self-centered teen, I never gave her habits much thought. It took awhile for her example of self-care to get through to me and now as an adult I work out for the physical, mental and emotional balance that comes with regular exercise and pushing yourself. I’m curious to see how my own kids incorporate this habit of mine into their own lives as they get older. I hope I’m giving them insight on how to take care of themselves.
When at FFC, you will find me doing…
On the floor or lifting weights or doing whatever my trainer Steve tells me to do. At the cafe with Opal and Lola. On the stairclimber or in the back of a spin class 10 minutes late.
I work out to…
Stay sane. Keep in shape. Push myself. Stay healthy.
