Tips for a first-time marathon runner with the Bright Pink team at FFC

Whether you are training for an endurance race or have your sights set on some shorter distances, or are just gearing up to run a mile, what and how you fuel your body can make or break your training and leave you feeling great or awful.

Allison Koch, FFC’s Elmhurst dietitian and 18 time marathon finisher (including Chicago 4 times), is offering  virtual workshops to help you learn how best to fuel (and refuel) your body to support your training and get the best results possible (like a shiny new personal best time!).

Each workshop will be virtual (held via google meetings) and last about an hour. There will be plenty of time for Q&A! Dates, times and topics are below:

  • 7/28 6 PM: Fueling Before, After and On The Run: Practice Makes PRs!
  • 9/1 at 6 PM: It’s Time to Tame the Taper Tantrums and Fuel Up for Race Day Success

Cost/workshop: $20

To sign up or ask questions, please reach out to Allison at akoch@ffc.com.

FFC West Loop Outdoor Pool

Everyone is looking to get out and about as the pandemic starts to slow down, but as a parent myself, I know it can be tough to find something the whole family enjoys. To help bridge that gap, FFC West Loop is opening up our incredible outdoor pool and deck on Wednesday evenings from 6 – 8:30 PM for families to enjoy swimming, food, drinks, and fun.

Cost is $60 for members, $70 for non-members, and includes entry to the club, two large 1-topping pizzas, unlimited sodas for kids, swimming for 2.5 hours (6 pm to 8.30 pm), and 2 hour validated parking.

Adult beverages are available and can be purchased separately.  Space is limited to 15 families, so please RSVP by calling 312.902.2040.

*There is no life-guard on duty, and all children must be supervised by an adult at all times.  Children are not allowed into the club or locker rooms without adult accompaniment.*

This will be on-going throughout the summer, weather depending.  We hope to see you out there!

Email Ryan Oswald, roswald@ffc.com for more information.
