Congratulations to our 2014 Year Of Wellness Winner!
My mom, Dawn La Fleur is one of my biggest role models. On top of taking care of our family which includes me, my Dad, brother, grandparents and two foster children, she volunteers her time to the PTL, our church, boy scouts, girl scouts and works part-time. All with a shining smile on her face and little time to take care of herself. The past couple of years have been rough, and she became concerned about her health. She has had a weight problem pretty much all of her life. There were many things that she wanted to do but couldn’t. Her knees were always hurting her and she was in a lot of pain. She was trying very hard to lose weight, but it just wasn’t working. Last year she decided it was time to make a change. Her doctor helped put her on a diet and she was very good about not cheating. She started around the end of October 2012 and reached her goal, early June of 2013. She stood strong through the Holidays and did not give up. At some points she was very tempted to give up, but she didn’t and she stood strong. Around February of 2013, she had lost about fifty pounds. We were at a family winter camp and we were playing a game of floor hockey. When I saw her running up and down the court it about brought tears to my eyes to see how happy she was. A couple months later she reached her goal and lost 100 pounds. I am so proud of her. She worked so hard to reach her goal and continues to maintain it. Winning a year of wellness would be a great reward and a way for my Mom to continue her new healthy life.
