Stop Aches and Pains April 27, 2012

Inflammation Release Technique was created by Lori L. Spencer, and is deep tissue approach to chronic aches and pains, but uses lighter pressure and repetition to break down inflammatory mediators that nestle within muscle and connective tissue. These adhesions are the culprits behind stiffness and pain. The typical client feels immediate results, and over a period of six weekly visits, the body will usually return to its healthy state before trauma occurred.

IRT was accepted by top MDs and PhDs at the 2nd International Fascia Research Congress when presented by Lori Spencer. For ten years, Ms. Spencer has been a clinical massage therapist, with a practice focused on chronic pain sufferers, working on everyone from athletes and musicians to the homebound population. Try IRT today and get on the road to a pain free life! For more information, contact Lori at lspencer@ffc.com. Or, book an appointment today with her at ffc.com/spa.

Try the Thai! April 27, 2012

Thai massage involves stretching and deep massage. In Thailand, Thai massage is widely considered to be a medical discipline used for the treatment of a wide variety of ailments. This form of bodywork is performed on a mat on the floor. You should wear comfortable clothes which allow movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. The style is sometimes referred to as “passive yoga” as the recipient is put into many yoga-like positions during the service. The massage practitioner leans on the recipient’s body using hands to apply firm rhythmic pressure.

April’s Message from General Manager Kathleen Weber March 29, 2012

On March 15, Bobby Huggins and University of West Virginia Mountaineers lost to Mark Few and the Gonzaga University Bull Dogs 77-54 in the first round of the 2012 NCAA division I basketball tournament. Here’s a snap shot of the two coaches careers leading up to Thursday night’s game.

Bobby Huggins:
• Head Coach of the men’s basketball team at the University of Cincinnati for 16 years.
• Infamous off-the-court problems, leading to his own arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol — which resulted in a video showing him staggering, with vomit on the driver’s side door.
• Advertised with no hesitation having a ZERO percent graduation rate in 16 seasons. This tactic ensured his successful recruitment of the most athletically able but least productive student-athletes in the classroom.

Mark Few:
• Has the second-best winning percentage in the nation, second only to Roy Williams from University of North Carolina.
• His program graduates 80% of the young men who enter the program.
• His devotion to an 11 year old boy named Brandon Chastain.

Brandon died of brain cancer Thursday morning, March 15. Brandon was a regular at practices and games. The team spent hours with the young boy at the Ronald McDonald House in his arduous battle with cancer. Coach Few gathered the team together on Thursday morning and let them know Brandon had died. The team mourned the loss of their 11 year old friend and mentor and then dedicated the game versus West Virginia to his memory. Inspired by Brandon’s fight for life, Brandon’s impact on the team and the reminder that life is precious the Gonzaga easily defeated the Mountaineers 77-54.

This is a story of two coaches and two basketball programs that are leaving two completely different legacies both in the 2012 NCAA tournament and over a lifetime. This is a snap shot of all our lives. We are an outward expression of an inward condition. Just look around you to know the integrity of the legacy you are leaving.

As always we are here to help you achieve your fitness goals. As the weather continues to warm we will be moving boot camps and training sessions outside along the lake front! Look for postings of dates and time in the club or contact Fitness Director Tim Stearns tstearns@ffc.com for details.

Keep Strong and Journey on!
