Get Excited for What’s To Come: Upcoming Renovation Updates

We are thrilled to announce we will be starting some exciting renovations to the club toward the end of August. The biggest improvements will be in the locker rooms and will include new tile, glass showers, enhanced lighting and other aesthetic upgrades. Additionally, we will be changing some lobby tile, refurbishing the membership office and replacing the Fitness Desk with a smaller version, freeing up more floor space for you.

During portions of the construction, parts of either the men’s or women’s locker rooms will be unavailable as the phases of construction are completed. We will be supplying updates as frequently as possible throughout the process to keep you in the loop.

Please stay tuned for more details and communication throughout the club and thank you in advance for your patience as we make these upgrades to FFC South Loop!

Join us with MYZONE for the Mayzone Challenge! The Mayzone Challenge is a three-week competition focusing on different types of exercise to give an average workout program the kick and redirection it needs to start seeing significant gains. This program will allow you to have a better overall knowledge on how different heart rate zones affect your workouts. Specifically, through our Mayzone challenge, you will gain an understanding of how to target fat loss, overall weight loss, caloric expenditure, and how to increase your fitness levels.

  • Sunday May 7 – Saturday May 13 – High Intensity (Red/Yellow Zones)
  • Sunday May 14 – Saturday May 20 – Low Impact (Blue/Green Zones)
  • Sunday May 21 – Saturday May 27 – High Intensity Interval Training (Red/Green Zones)

Prizes & Awards: Prizes and awards for this challenge will be awarded at the end of each week as each weekly challenge is its own separate competition. The prize of 1 free personal training session and 1 free smoothie will be awarded to winner at the end of that weekly challenge.

Zone Key

Red/Yellow Challenge (High Intensity): a type of strength training that focuses on performing quality weight training repetitions of max effort until muscular failure. High intensity training takes into account number of repetitions, the amount of weight, and the amount of time the muscle is exposed to tension.

Additional Benefits

  • Maximizes the amount of muscle fiber recruitment
  • Improves aerobic fitness levels
  • Maximum caloric expenditure
  • Aids in weight loss
  • Improves overall muscular endurance

Blue/Green Challenge (Low Impact Fat Burn): low impact exercises are made up of movements that deliver less direct force to the body resulting in less muscular and joint stress (in most cases done for longer amounts of time). This type of workout proportionally burns more fat than carbohydrates as a fuel source as well.

  • Additional Benefits
  • Helps lower your LDL (cholesterol)
  • Reduces hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Improves heart function
  • Aids lung function
  • Assists in healing and recovering damaged joints
  • Aids weight loss
  • Minimal stress to joints

Red/Green Challenge (High Intensity Interval Training): otherwise known as HIIT, ensures you get the maximum benefit of your workout in a shorter amount of time. This type of training uniquely preserves muscle growth and gain while also targeting fat loss.

Additional Benefits

  • Builds endurance
  • Burns fat and calories in shorter periods of time
  • Effective energy use
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Continues to burn fat and calorie after workout is completed
  • Minimal equipment necessary
  • Targets fat loss and excludes muscle loss
  • Heart health benefits

Member of the Month

Member of the Month

Congratulations to Nicole Gillig, FFC South Loop’s March Member of the Month! We asked Nicole about her experience at FFC, and here’s what she had to share:

What does FFC Membership mean to you?

My FFC Membership means that I get the chance to be a part of a fit family! Working out at the FFC South Loop has changed every aspect of my life. Everyone from the staff to the other members are warm and welcoming. I genuinely feel like everyone there wants to see me succeed and are there to support me along the way… what other gym has ever given you that feeling? None! The cost of the membership has been nothing compared to what I have gained from being part of the FFC family, I mean I see these people more often than my actual family!

When at FFC you will find me…

…loving life! Usually I can be found lifting and laughing with my personal trainer, Angelina Iovino. When I’m not with Angelina, you will find me on the treadmill or stair master trying to build up my endurance. After completing my first 5K in 2016, I have developed a slight obsession with running – words I never thought would come out of MY mouth!

I work out to…

…feel good about myself! I have been working out regularly at the FFC South Loop location since February 2016 and have lost 82lbs in the process! Living a fit healthy lifestyle has helped me to develop a more positive attitude and to not sweat the small stuff. There are so many things we don’t have control of in life but the one thing we do have control of is our bodies and how we feel about ourselves. Working out helps me feel strong and fabulous!

Congratulations to Andrea Slattery, FFC South Loop’s February Member of the Month! We asked Andrea about her experience at FFC, and here’s what she had to share:

What does membership at FFC mean to you?

Membership at FFC means exercise is as enjoyable as exercise can be. The staff is friendly and helpful. The facility is clean, and equipment is always available (even when I’m looking for an excuse to go home).

When at FFC you will find me…

At FFC you’ll find me hardly able to walk because Brooke insists on destroying my legs every week.

I work out to…

I work out to try to fight flab and gravity.

New Arrivals: Octane Lateral Machines

We are excited to announce that we will be adding 2 new Octane Laterals during this upcoming month!

Octane’s multiple award-winning LateralX elliptical machine is a complete reinvention of cross training, with adjustable, lateral movement combined with a vertical stepping motion in multiple planes. Exercisers can move up and down, forward and back and side to side – for valuable muscle confusion and conditioning – all on one machine. Studies show that exercisers burn 27% more calories and use 30% more of the inner and outer thighs on the LateralX going from the lowest to greatest lateral width setting. Keep an eye out for these new machines!

Congratulations to Lee Michaels, FFC South Loop’s November Member of the Month! We asked Lee about his experience at FFC, and here’s what he had to share:

What does membership at FFC mean to you?

It means a much happier life! Nothing compares to the feeling of knocking out a great workout day after day. I walk out of here every single time ready to high five the people getting off the EL at Roosevelt! This year I knocked out my 4th Chicago Marathon. With the help of my trainer, Shaka Mitchell, I beat my previous best by 15 minutes, putting me in the top 10% among all runners. I couldn’t have done it without him!!!!

When at FFC you will find me…

Lifting. Weights. I love both sides equally, but I spend most of my time near the dumbbell racks on racks on racks. (Pardon my hip hop…)

I work out to…

Keep myself in check. Who cares what you did yesterday… what did you do today? New day, new goal… Get it!
