A New Year’s Message from General Manager Bob Dowdy December 27, 2011

“We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential.” – Ellen Goodman

What a great new philosophy to start the New Year! For those of us who might be worried about losing that last few pounds or beating our personal best in the next 5K, why not take a moment to CELEBRATE our successes and the hard work that it took to get this far? Too often when we look in the mirror we only see the work that needs to be done and not the progress that we have made. Your commitment to your personal goal in the previous year gives you tremendous opportunity to realize your potential in 2012. You only have 5 more pounds to lose! You can run a 5K without passing out! Balance your attention to your accomplishments with your drive to achieve greater results.

Instead of making a New Year’s resolution, why not identify your potential in 2012. Sounds better right? We are much more accountable to fulfilling our potential than we are to a silly New Year’s Resolution. Your potential for the year may be another rung on the ladder to get to an ultimate goal, or this may be the year to check a big item off of the bucket list. Over the next few frigid Chicago months we will dedicate ourselves to our favorite indoor fitness program while dreaming of the summer days when we can test our time on the course or show off the winter’s hard work at the beach. Our potential is that vision that motivates us to attend more classes, swim more laps, and seek advice from our personal trainer. Our reward is the realization of that vision.

My staff and I would love to help you to achieve your potential in 2012. Helping you to set goals and create a plan to get there is what we do best. When you succeed, we’ll be right there with you to help celebrate!
