FFC and Gift of Hope Urge Members to Get Fit for Life

fit-for-life-donorFitness Formula Clubs and Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network are partnering to raise public awareness of organ and tissue donation.  We set out to encourage people to register as organ and tissue donors through the network’s month-long Fit for Life Campaign, conducted throughout National Donate Life Month in April.

In late 2013, FFC named Gift of Hope its charity partner for FFC’s 2014 Year of Wellness Contest. That partnership continues during National Donate Life Month, as we work together to promote donation through special events and a series of donor registration drives at all nine FFC locations during April. (See schedule below.)

Our premier event will be held at FFC Union Station on Wednesday, April 16. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and the Jesse White Tumblers will be on location to show their support for organ and tissue donation, while showcasing their acrobatic prowess. Kidney transplant candidate and 2013 FFC Year of Wellness Contest winner Quinetta Taylor also will be on hand to share her personal story of donation and transplantation. Please join us for this special showcase event.

The schedule of donor registration drives being held at FFC locations can be found below. Make plans to stop by to register as a donor or show us that you’ve already registered and receive a complimentary gift.

  • East Lakeview: Saturday, April 5, 8am – 12pm
  • Old Town: Monday, April 7, 4:30 – 8pm
  • West Loop: Wednesday, April 9, 10:30am – 1:30pm
  • Lincoln Park: Tuesday, April 15, 4:30 – 8pm

Your Mood Needs a Workout

spring-renewal-chicago-spaDon’t neglect your mind and spirit when it comes to getting in shape!  Spring is a time of renewal – the grass is beginning to turn green again, the days are getting longer, and we begin to shed extra winter pounds.  It’s important as you ramp up your exercise routine not to forget to take time to nurture your soul.  It is true that your body’s mood elevator, serotonin, will increase from exercise, but is it enough to combat daily stress?  Probably not.  Finding activities that nourish your creative, spiritual side and that balance you out is just as important as cycling, running, or swimming.  Take a painting class, commune with good friends, get a great massage, go far a slow intentional walk, hug your loved ones a little tighter. We’re sure you’ll see that coupling physical exercise with emotional exercise will find you at your happiest!

This month, when you join us at the spa for a soul-enhancing experience, we’ll delight you with a Signature Vitality detoxifying treatment, massage, and overall well-body treatment for 90 minutes at a special price of $115* (save $30).  Is your skin in need of a re-charge?  Try our Signature Facial for just $89*.  Transition from winter to spring at the Spa —- You won’t regret it!  Book your appointment online today! Offer expires 4/30/14.

Tax Week Spa Rebate:
Get $10 Back in Spa Bucks between April 13 – April 19 for any service of 60 Minutes or More.  $5 Back on all other services.*

How to Get Your Protein!

Nutrition-Protein-WeightlossVegetarian and Vegan Protein Sources

We all need protein, not just for building muscle, but also for growth and development, organ and tissue repair, and immune system function. While the exact amount that’s right for you depends on your gender, age, and physical activity level, it is generally recommended that adults get 10-35% of their total daily calories from protein. Meat, poultry, and fish typically get the credit for being the best sources, but what about vegetarian and vegan options? Is it possible to get enough protein without eating meat?

The answer is yes! Those who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet can still get adequate protein by consuming protein-rich foods, such as the ones listed below:
