Congratulations to Emilie Allen, FFC Halsted & Belmont’s January Member of the Month! We asked Emilie about her experience at FFC, and here’s what she had to share:

What does membership at FFC mean to you?

A membership at FFC means consistent quality to me.  Whether I’m at my home gym (Halsted) or pop into another location I know I’m going to have access to the best equipment and staff for a great workout.

When at FFC, you will find me doing…

I’m usually working out with my trainer, Derek.  He does a great job pushing my limits and working my strength and balance.

I work out to…

I work out for stress relief and to help energize my day.  Of course, I also work out to make room for a little pizza and wine 😉

How-To: Work Out With Our NEW Synergy 360 Machine

If you haven’t seen (and how could you not?!), we recently purchased a huge piece of training equipment  – “Synergy 360”. Synergy 360 is a fun, exciting piece designed to inspire and motivate your workouts!

Some members have seen our “Synergy 360”, but aren’t visualizing how it works.  As its name  entails, you’ll utilize 360 degrees of the apparatus… resulting in a full body workout!

Below are some sample 20-minute workouts to follow, with photos of exercises to incorporate! For more information on the workouts, or for any questions or if you want to set up a consultation with Sophie, you can email her at shelsham@ffc.com.

Step 1)  start the stopwatch on your phone or download the “Tabata Workout App.” You’ll work for 20 seconds and then rest for 20 seconds. You’ll perform each exercise twice before moving on to the next exercise.

Step 2)  choose one of the circuit workouts below.

(Note: the first circuit of exercises below include more strength movements that will be performed more slowly and controlled; the second circuit can be done more aggressively to get the heart rate up but the time and format should stay the same – 20 seconds on, 20 seconds off. Perform the exercise twice before moving on.)

Circuit 1

  • Cable chest flys
  • Goblet squats (beginner – air squats. advanced 2 kb in front rack position)
  • Bicep curls with band
  • TRX single leg squats
  • Dips
  • Core Rotations with RIPT trainer

Circuit 2

  • Rope pulls
  • Box jumps
  • Punching bag
  • Battle ropes
  • Burpees (add pull ups for extra challenge)
  • Kettle bell swings

The Alpha Krav Maga academy (located at FFC Old Town) will be conducting free Krav Maga demos at FFC Halsted Street every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 – 7 PM in the stretch area until December 21.

What does membership at FFC mean to you?

Over the years FFC has helped me start and end my day! The trainers and staff have opened up a world of fitness opportunities that make working out fun and challenging! Also, I’ve learned that you can do anything for 10 more seconds (thank you Beth P!).

When at FFC, you will find me doing…

Spinning, flipping tires, the elliptical, running on the treadmill, weights… anything that’s not a crunch!

Stay happy, sane and challenge myself… and also for that extra glass of red wine (a healthy antioxidant) at the end of the day!

Throughout the month, Zach consistently went above and beyond his normal duties. Congratulations to Brittany Cunningham, FFC Halsted & Belmont’s October Member of the Month! We asked Brittany about her experience at FFC, and here’s what she had to share:

What does membership at FFC mean to you?

FFC has connected me with several amazing individuals in the personal training and Pilates departments. I probably would have quit before I even really got started if it hadn’t been for Brandon Kiraly (sadly no longer with FFC, but will someday be the best physical therapist a person could ask for!) I wouldn’t be able to run without pain, move with purpose, stand tall with proper posture, or do cool tricks like Arabesque or Snake without Zara Espinoza. I wouldn’t have developed the courage to embrace my body’s strength (and venture downstairs to the weights!) without Jamie Labriola.

I am a very different person both physically and mentally than I was 3+ years ago, and it’s in no small part to my time spent at FFC.

When at FFC, you will find me…

Either performing fun tricks in the Pilates studio or picking heavy things up and putting them down on the weight room floor.

I work out to…

Music. I have a few Pandora stations I rotate through. Plenty of pop, rock, classic rock, movie soundtracks, and the occasional musical number.

Boot Camp to Beat Breast Cancer – Every Saturday in October

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Every Saturday in October, you are invited to attend an excellent fat burning and strength building boot camp from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM in Studio 1 in order to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

It’s become a part of my daily routine, I look forward to it everyday. From the minute I walk in the door, it’s always such a pleasant experience. The staff are all incredibly friendly, and that creates such a positive environment. It makes coming to the gym so much easier!
