Instructor Spotlight – Meet Janine Ricker May 29, 2011

Janine Ricker is an experienced fitness professional, having taught many fitness formats for over 15 years! She has a passion for teaching and engaging members; she loves to learn from others in her field to better herself and her classes. Janine has done it all – taught fitness at university gyms, studied Pilates in London, and even worked as the Fitness Director on board of Norwegian Cruise Lines teaching in Holland, Germany and the Hawaiian Islands. Join Janine’s Pilates class every Monday evening from 5:15pm-6:15pm. New participants during the month of June will receive a complimentary beverage of their choice!

Instructor Spotlight – Jennifer Shin March 25, 2011

Jennifer Shin completed her first teacher training at Yoga Now Chicago. There she studied many different disciplines including Astanga, Anusara, and Jivamukti Yoga. Jennifer just completed the 2010 Forrest Foundation teacher training, studying under the founder Ana Forrest herself, as well as Talya Ring and Steve Emmerman of Turbo Dog Spirit Center. Forrest yoga is one of the most physiologically intelligent practices to heal and address every individual’s unique issues. Jennifer believes passionately in this practice and is excited to share it with as many people as possible. Join her for Forrest Yoga on Tuesdays from 12:15pm-1:15pm. Trainer Spotlight – Ron Mendoza March 25, 2011

Ron is a Master Trainer at the 190 Athletic Club and has over 8 years experience as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor. After graduating from Morianne Valley Community College with a Health Fitness Specialist degree, Ron became a certified personal trainer through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). He currently provides continuing education classes and workshops for AFFA several times a year. Ron is known for his enthusiastic, high intensity, non-stop workouts. His specialty is core conditioning, and stresses the importance of a strong core with all of this clients. Instructor Spotlight – Lisa Hill February 28, 2011

Lisa Hill has been teaching Ashtanga Yoga since 1996. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light,strong body, and a calm mind. She spent three years teaching in Tokyo and Phuket, and traveled to India to study under Sri K. Patthabi Jois (the guru) on several occasions. Lisa teaches Ashtanga Yoga at the 190 Athletic Club on Wednesday evenings at 5:00pm and Friday afternoons at 12:15pm.

Trainer Spotlight – Scott McLain February 28, 2011

Scott is one of 190′s Elite Trainers and has been employed with Fitness Formula Clubs since 2007. Scott received his B.S. Degree in Exercise Physiology and his Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Ohio State University. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Scott is a two-time finalist for IDEA’s International Personal Trainer of the Year. He is passionate about Ohio State Football, Columbus Bluejacket Hockey, weight training and snow skiing. Scott’s specialties include general conditioning and sports specific conditioning. Member Motivational Program-Can you go the distance? December 27, 2010

Feeling a little sluggish after the holidays? Let us help you get motivated this January. Workout on any of our cardiovascular pieces of equipment; treadmills, cross trainers, bikes or steppers and log your mileage each day that you workout with the assistance of a 190 Staff Member. All cardio group fitness classes count as 5 miles. The member who achieves the most mileage at the end of the month receives a free month of membership dues and two free months of laundry service.
